Create an Interior Bathroom for Your Pet Before the Hurricane

If you live anywhere near Florida, be sure to prepare your hiking bag and prepare your escape plan as Tropical Storm Dorian approaches (and is likely to escalate into a Category 3 or 4 hurricane).

But while you are preparing, you should also make a plan based on your dog’s needs. On Twitter, one user shared a suggestion through Patriot K-Nine Training : To avoid the hassle of walking your dog outside, to make your life easier, have a simple indoor bathroom; Hurricanes can scare or endanger your pet if debris is flying around.

All you need for this is a children’s pool and a few pieces of turf; Put the turf in the pool and place it in your garage or other safe place so your dog can go about his business without going outside.

“If possible, store your faeces in small Ziploc bags and sprinkle baking soda under the sod to get rid of the odor,” added one Twitter user. “If you can put the kids pool in the tent, even better!”

And if you do decide to go outside, never let your dog get off the leash. As Patriot K-Nine Training recommends, microchip your pet now, before any hurricane, so you can reunite in the event of an escape.
