Weekend Gallop on a Dirty Horse

Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. You guys remember my BBF, horseradish vodka, huh? (You should, just yesterday it was released to the world .) Well, in a move you probably foresaw, we’re using it to make an invigorating, slightly salty, sinus-clearing martini.

Of course, how your martini clears your sinuses depends on how strong you made your horseradish vodka . I prepared mine with about 60 grams of root in 375 milliliters of vodka, reaffirming that you should do what I say, not like me. (About half that amount of horseradish is enough, but if you overdo it on the root, don’t worry, you can just dilute it with a lot of vodka .) Once your spiced alcohol is mixed and strained, you’re ready to mix it with dry vermouth and some olive brine. for an invigorating martini that hints at being savory but not salty. (For those of you who include the ingredients used to make horseradish vodka in our cocktail ingredient count, you got me! There’s nothing left with you!) To make this new favorite drink of mine, you will need:

  • 2 1/4 ounce horseradish vodka
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1/2 teaspoon brine green olives ( not oil)

Mix everything in a glass with ice and stir until the glass is too cold to hold comfortably. Strain into a chilled compartment, put an olive there and enjoy.
