You Can Download and Play the Free Version of the Cult Horror Game “PT” [updated]

Update: It looks like the developer is planning to remove the game from Itch.io next week. If you haven’t downloaded it yet and plan to play it, download it quickly before another version of PT disappears. What follows is the original story.

PT is one of the strangest video games ever made, not only because it was a great horror / puzzle short game for the PlayStation 4, but also because the original game was largely removed from the internet and hasn’t been available for download for years.

Regardless, PT has gained a cult following, and independent video game maker RadiusGorde recently released a replica of a game called Unreal PT for free.

You can get Unreal PT by clicking the Download link on its Itch.io page. After downloading the file, simply unzip the folder and run PT_2.exe.

Although the game was built using the Unreal 4 engine (hence the name “Unreal PT” ), you don’t need a super-powerful PC or laptop to play it. The minimum minimum specs on which the game was tested:

  • Processor: 7th Generation i3-7100U with Intel HD 620
  • GPU: built-in
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4

This is pretty standard on low-cost PCs. For those who are having problems with the smooth operation of the game, turn off the HQ SSR setting and lower the resolution in the game to achieve the standard 30 frames per second.

A word of caution though: Unreal PT’s VR mode is currently disabled, although the developer is working on a solution. However, if you have a VR headset plugged in at all when launching Unreal PT , the game will load VR mode by default, so make sure your Vive or Oculus Rift is completely turned off before playing.

The non-VR mode, meanwhile, is fully playable and we can confirm that it’s still quite disturbing, just like the original.

Trailer for the original “PT”

For those unfamiliar, PT was originally intended as a short teaser (or “Playable Trailer”, you know?) For a now-canceled game called Silent Hills by Konami, which at the time was the studio’s planned reboot of Silent Hill. survival horror franchise. It was also meant to be a collaborative effort between creator and director of the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid video game series Hideo Kojima, director Guillermo del Toro and actor Norman Reedus.

Despite its short experience, the original PT was full of strange puzzles and Easter eggs, and in the early days after its release, players were buzzing with players exchanging theories and discoveries. Sadly, Silent Hills was eventually shut down by Konami after the company fired Kojima and started taking its business away from video games.

Although the trio Kojima, Del Toro, and Reedus have since reunited and are currently working on an upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Death Stranding , PT was unceremoniously removed from the PlayStation store by Konami following the cancellation of Silent Hills. The only way to play the original PT is on a PlayStation 4 console that has the game downloaded and installed. They are in such high demand that they can be found on eBay for $ 1,800.

Luckily, this fan game means we can once again explore the haunted hallways of this strange (but not very empty) house.
