Make Public Speaking Easier With This Free Voice-Activated Teleprompter

If you’re not used to public speaking, a teleprompter can be a useful tool in your arsenal. A teleprompter can help you keep your speech correct and make everything smoother. There is just one problem: most free and web teleprompters automatically scroll, which means that if you stop for any reason while reading, your teleprompter will leave you behind.

This week I came across a great alternative: Teleprompt.me . The free internet-based teleprompter uses your computer’s built-in microphone to listen to what you say and then scroll as you speak. If you’re performing to an audience in a concert hall, it won’t do you much good, but if you’re filming YouTube videos in your living room, this is the perfect solution.

To use it, you just go to the tool site using Google Chrome (it only works with Chrome) and enter some text or paste the script you created elsewhere. Pro tip: You do this in the far right window, not in the center of the screen.

Once you have the text in the tool, you can resize and color or flip it using the small controls at the top of the page.

Once you’ve entered all of your text, all you have to do is read it. When the site hears the words displayed on the screen, it starts scrolling. Since this is controlled by your speech, you can speak at a more natural pace than if you were using the autoscrolling teleprompter.

I tried this with several different texts (including this article) and it worked flawlessly.

If you are already using an auto-scrolling web prompter, then you should definitely give it a try.
