Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Winter Wassail Spritz

Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. Continuing my tendency to turn winter warm drinks into soft drinks, I would like to introduce you to my friend, Winter Wassail Spritz.

Wassail is a spiced mulled wine, apple cider that is usually served warm and was originally eaten as part of a ritual to ensure a bountiful harvest of old apples. You can find ready-made vassal bottles in many stores, and after purchase, you can add alcohol to them. I love Trader Joe’s suggestion, which has currant juice which gives it a nice pink color. To give this medieval proposal a sparkling modern look, you’ll need:

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce vassal (or any other spiced cider)
  • Sparkling wine top

Add gin and chilled sailboat to champagne glass and pour over chilled sparkling wine. Drink and sing many hymns.
