How to Cancel Sending a Message on WhatsApp

WhatsApp users whose fingers move faster than their brains will be delighted to know that the company is introducing a new feature that allows you to recall your last message and erase it from a conversation. According to The Next Web, this feature is being rolled out to certain users right now.

According to WhatsApp’s FAQ page, the pending delete feature allows you to remove an autocorrect failure or a message sent to the wrong person from an entry. Everyone, regardless of whether they are chatting with one person or with a group, will see “This message has been deleted” instead of your previous message. However, you only have seven minutes to get rid of the error in the conversation. After that, you’re out of luck.

To make sure you are one of those lucky ones who can delete messages, you need to make sure that you are using the updated version of the app on your iOS, Android, or (ha!) Windows Phone (again, ha!) Device. Your chat recipient (or recipients) also need to update WhatsApp to the latest version. After the update, you can check if you have this feature by selecting a message older than seven minutes. IOS users press and hold a message, select the Delete option and then Delete for all, if available. Android and Windows Phone users can select one or more messages, select the Delete option, and then select Delete for all.

Minor improvements are required before using the cancel button in chat. Recipients can see your message before you delete it, and there is no way to check if the message was successfully deleted from someone’s conversation. That said, if you’ve been drinking a little and want to give up a romantic advance that was sent to your tailor in lieu of a Tinder date, the cancel button could save your life.
