Fraudulently Trick People Into Buying You Drinks With These Bar Rates

Free drinks always make the evening better, but you don’t have to suck up to the bartender to get them. Instead, use these simple bar bets to beat your friends (or other bar diners) and win yourself a couple of free drinks.

Although they are called “rates,” they often rely on you adjusting them to take advantage of the limits or rules that people tend to create for themselves. Then, when others can’t decide a bet, you rush in and do it in no time, leaving them a tab of the drink. If you feel bad about tricking your friends or other bar patrons into buying you drinks, you can always use them for fun and skip some of the bets.

There are endless bar bets, but these four don’t require a lot of props and can be equally good for one person or the whole group.

Glass law

Props : two full glasses of the same size and shape. When stacking, there should be a small space between them.

Bet : place the folded glasses in any way (on their side, upside down, etc.) and, placing them, separate them without touching them.

Trick : Place the glasses on their side at the edge of the table so that the edge of the bottom glass touches the edge. The table top should be facing away from the table. Blow lightly into the space between the stacked glasses so that the top glass slides out. Be prepared to catch the top glass before it hits the floor.

Straw snake

Props : straw, paper wrapper, and a glass of water.

Bet : unwind the straw by pushing the wrapper over the straw to keep it nice and compact. The bet is to stretch the wrapper with the straw, but not touch the wrapper with the straw.

Trick : Put a couple of drops of water in a straw and drip them onto the wrapper, starting at one end. When water hits the paper, it should expand.

Check

Props : an empty beer bottle and a dollar bill.

Bet : after turning over an empty beer bottle on a bill, remove the bill without knocking over the bottle. You cannot touch the bottle. Ask someone to be prepared to catch the bottle in case it falls.

Trick : Roll the bill slowly, gently pulling it out while rolling. It should move towards you and eventually free itself completely from the bottle.

Bet : You can place something in a person’s weaker (non-dominant) hand that they cannot pick up with a stronger hand.

Trick : Place the elbow of your stronger arm / arm in your weaker arm.
