What Amusements Do You Turn to for Comfort in Times of Distress?

Hello everyone, especially new parents! The media is worrying, isn’t it? And sometimes it goes from just worry to terrifying. I have found that the news, and in general any violent or disturbing media, can be simply unbearable for many people, but especially for young parents who are in a delicate state.

So, I take this opportunity to compile a general list of books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and so on that don’t bother – easy, non- disturbing entertainment for people who can’t stand anything disturbing for a while (and maybe forever) …

First and foremost, this means: no child in danger storylines, no kidnappings, no childhood cancers, no miscarriages or other crying people in hospitals, no child abuse, no parental abuse. – brave soldier, probably no war stories, unless it’s something soothing and English like Foyle’s War , no rape scenes, no torture (I’m looking at you Scandal ), probably without Cormac McCarthy, but I can’t to say for sure because I can’t even try, there probably aren’t any otherwise great shows like Call the Midwife or Orange is the New Black .

So hit me. What are your favorites? I’ll start: I’m currently reading Chasing Love by Nancy Mitford, The Right Boy by Vikram Seth, Harry Potter with my son, listening to pop culture podcasts and some political podcasts. For the show, I work on Andy Griffith and Gilmore Girls, and I watch baseball, which is soothingly abstract.

What are you watching / reading / listening to?
