How to Watch the Lord of the Rings Reunion
It will be a wonderful summer weekend. (Maybe – we don’t know where you live.) We do know how tempting it will be to go out and see other people, but Josh Gad has other plans for you for Sunday. That’s when he turns the upcoming episode of his quarantine YouTube series Reunited Apart into a Lord of the Rings reunion and fundraiser.
Judging by the short teaser video already released, we already know a thing or two about this reunion. First, it will feature many of the favorites, including Sean Astin (who plays Samwise Gamgee), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Dominic Monaghan (Merry Brandybuck) and Billy Boyd (Pippin Knock). McKellen will also drink a well-deserved glass of red wine.
But wait, that’s not all ! Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and actors Andy Serkis, Karl Urban, Viggo Mortensen, Mirando Otto, John Rhys-Davis, Sean Bean and Liv Tyler will also join Zoom.
Fundraising for the COVID-19 charity is especially close to home for this particular group. The cast and crew of The Lord of the Rings recently learned of the death of their co-star Andrew Jack , the show’s dialect teacher, who passed away in April at the age of 76 from complications from COVID-19.
And this isn’t Gad’s first reunion rodeo. Previously, he reunited the actors of two popular films of 1985:“Goonies” and“Back to the Future.” Earlier this week, he gathered Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, Eugene Levy and Ron Howard to discuss their classicmovie 1984“Splash”.
In each episode, Gad raises money for a COVID-19-related charity. Previous organizations have included Project HOPE (a global health and humanitarian relief organization), DigDeep (working to ensure that every American has access to water and sanitation), and The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (supporting those most affected by pandemic COVID-19).
“Reunited Apart: The Lord of the Rings” will premiere on Sunday, May 31st at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM. ET on Gad’s YouTube channel .
