How to Send Audio Messages Hands-Free on Android
Google Assistant lets you do a ton of things on your Android phone hands- free, and a recent update adds recording and sending voice messages via text to this list.
WhatsApp users will likely point out that a similar feature has been in the Android app for a few years now, but this new Google Assistant feature is applicable to the Google Messages app. Google Assistant can record, trim and send voice messages via MMS and RCS text to any contact stored on your phone without having to press a single button. It’s incredibly convenient, and here’s how to do it:
- Say “Ok / Ok Google” to bring up the Google Assistant on your device.
- Say, “Send audio message to [contact name].”
- Record your message, but make it quick – Google Assistant will start recording the moment you say “Send audio message to [name],” and stop recording if it notices anything longer than a brief pause.
- Google Assistant will ask if you are ready to send a message. You can say “Yes” to send the message or “No” to cancel. If you can touch the screen, you can click the Play button to listen to the recording before submitting, or the Retry icon to try again (there are Submit or Cancel buttons on the screen , like Well).
I usually don’t send voice messages, but after sending multiple such messages using Google Assistant, I see a call. I mainly use digital assistants to control my device hands-free while driving or other practical activities. And I often call Google Assistant or Siri while I’m cooking, so maybe I’ll start using that if I need to send a message when my hands are covered in flour.
I think this complements well the ability of Google Assistant to read third-party app notifications . Just make sure you regularly delete your saved entries from your Google Assistant’s history.
