Make Homemade Grenadine With Just Two Ingredients
I’ve always thought of grenadine as one of the cocktail ingredients to buy, but you can make your own, more delicious version of the popular cocktail syrup at home with just two ingredients.
Today’s mass-produced grenadine is mostly corn syrup and food coloring, but grenadine originally got its fruity flavor from pomegranates. (Actually, the syrup’s name comes from the French word grenade, which means pomegranate.) To make it at home, all you need is unsweetened pomegranate juice and sugar. Mix equal amounts of each in a saucepan, bring to a boil and cook until the sugar dissolves. Cool and refrigerate for up to a month. Add it to Singapore slings, punching, mimosas, or Shirley temples (if you refrain).
