How to Answer Calls With Voice in IOS 14.5

It never fails. When your hands are busy, or you wash the dishes, and they are covered in soap, or when you work outside and everything is dirty, the phone rings. And the last thing you want to do is clog your screen or AirPods to answer the call. Good news: in iOS 14.5, you can now answer phone calls on specified AirPods or select Beats headphones by simply saying “answer” when they ring.

To unblock this feature, you first need to set up the “Place a Call with Siri” feature on your iPhone, which of course means installing iOS 14.5 if you haven’t already. Go to Settings> Siri & Search and make sure Allow Siri When Blocked is turned on. Then click Announce Calls. You can choose from three options:

Now, when you use one of the following headphones with your iPhone, you can simply say “answer” or “reject” when the phone starts ringing – “Hey Siri” is not required.

  • AirPods Max
  • AirPods (2nd generation)
  • AirPods Pro
  • Powerbeats
  • Powerbeats pro
  • Beats Solo Pro

And, yes, your iPhone will even tell you who’s calling while your ringtone is playing. Unfortunately, this little trick doesn’t work with your iPhone or iPad on its own. I tried to shout “answer” to my iPhone, but to no avail; you must use headphones. However, this is a great technique when combined with the Announce Messages feature of the same name, where Siri will read messages received from various apps (not just the default iOS messaging app) to you, and allows you to reply, again without having to say “Hi.” … Siri “to get started.

If you’re set to make your iPhone answer calls without having to do anything, you can turn on the accessibility feature, which does just that, by going to Settings> Accessibility> Touch> Audio Routing for calls “ . From there, turn on Auto Answer Calls and your iPhone or iPad will automatically answer all questions if you understand the risks to your productivity given how many robot calls you are likely to receive per day.
