“Vote in Chalk” With the Kids This Weekend

If your house is anything like mine, there has been little talk of elections in recent days and weeks (and months and years). My son would like to vote on his own, but at ten he will have to wait a little longer. My husband and I have already voted, so it’s easy to see that there’s nothing else to do but sit back and watch our worries grow steadily. But there is – then, and your child can do now: You can Chalk of The Vote .

The # ChalkTheVote campaign was created by the non-profit organization ParentsTogether to keep parents and their kids excited about voting and encourage others in their community to vote. Beginning Sunday, October 18, the organization is encouraging families to create lettering and chalk drawings to inspire community members to go to the polls. Mark with chalk any high-traffic public areas near you, such as bus stops, playgrounds, polling stations, around (but not on ) mailboxes, or on the sidewalk in front of your house.

Chalk the Vote starts on Sunday, but you can participate any day before election day, November 3rd. If you need inspiration, ParentsTogether has a variety of designs , including early voting mosaics, voting plan classics, voting calendar. as well as many messages and slogans.

By “recording voting with chalk,” children can feel empowered to have their voices heard and participate in the electoral process, which we hope will also lay the foundation for them to grow up and grow up to be voting adults.
