Bookmark This Directory of Black Owned Businesses Across Different Industries

While shopping for goods may seem like a must in order to get what you need, how we spend our money has more impact than we think. Large retailers won’t miss a sale if you decide to purchase from a small business. Plus, when you shop at independent stores, you’re more likely to get shoes, dishes, or greeting cards that other people don’t have. In particular, if you wanted to support more black-owned businesses but didn’t know where to start, there is an online directory that simplifies the process.

The website is called Five Fifths and it is a one-stop shop where you can not only find black-owned businesses that sell the items you want, but also provide news and interviews with black entrepreneurs. According to the site, the platform was built on the idea that everyone is a person who deserves freedom, respect and opportunity:

The reality of our story means that certain groups and people have been overlooked, overshadowed, forgotten, and constrained by factors beyond their control. Our goal at Five Fifths is to inspire these very people and highlight the many great things that are being done by members of these communities today.

There are two parts of the website that can point you in the direction of black-owned business that you should be aware of: Blacklists and Business Directory . Blacklists are carefully curated collections of black-brand restaurants , apparel , hairdressing and beauty establishments .

Bolstering itself as “the world’s largest database of black online businesses,” the Business Directory allows users to search for specific brands and products – everything from arts and crafts to cars, cigars, luggage and travel items. The public can also submit a brand for review or provide feedback .
