How to Park in Parallel Correctly Every Time

Finding parking is always tricky, but perfectly parallel parking? It seems almost impossible.

If you park your car on the street in a big city, you may be scared every time you turn on the turn signals and start to retreat. So, to ease all this pain and frustration, we have teamed up with our dear friends at Jalopnik to put together this simple video guide on how to park like a pro.

Our automotive expert Andrew P. Collins demonstrates each step of the process:

  • Make sure the stain is large enough to fit in your car. If your car is about the same length as one of the cars on either side of the seat, try to imagine how the other car fits into it.
  • Align the rear bumper with the rear bumper of the vehicle in front. Again, if this car is about the same length as yours, you can simply match the rearview mirrors with theirs.
  • Get as close as possible to the car in front. Many guides recommend keeping a distance of two feet, but we advise you to get as close as possible.
  • Then turn the wheel all the way to the curb and go back.
  • Watch the car behind you in your rearview mirror. It should start on one side of the mirror, and as you step back, work your way through the mirror to the other side. Stop when you only see half of the car behind you at the opposite end of the mirror.
  • Straighten the steering wheel and continue driving backward until you are clear of the vehicle in front.
  • Then turn the wheel all the way from the curb and continue back again. Get as close to the rear car as possible.
  • Then just walk forward and straighten.

Ready! No scratches on any car and any passing pedestrians will be instantly impressed with your skills.
