Costco $ 75 Coupon – Fake

If you noticed a $ 75 Costco coupon floating on Facebook and thought, “This seems far-fetched,” your intuition was correct: it’s a fake coupon.

The fake appears from time to time on social media, the most recent of which happened this week. Offensive Facebook posts force viewers to click on a link to a non-Costco website and then ask for the customer’s personal information in exchange for access to an invalid coupon.

“Despite several publications, Costco is NOT giving out $ 75 coupons,” the company said in a November 12 Facebook post. “While we love our fans and our members, this offer is a scam and is in no way affiliated with Costco. … Thanks to our fans for letting us know about this recurring hoax! “

Costco also states in its policy that only coupons that are distributed directly by Costco are counted.

Costco isn’t the only retailer whose name is used in this type of scam, where a scammer picks a popular brand (often one that doesn’t offer coupons often, like Aldi ) and uses it to facilitate identity theft. In some versions of the scam, the fraudster actually asks for your credit card number, according to fraud expert Steve Weisman. The scammers also recommend that you share the coupon on your own social media feeds, “which makes fake coupons more legal when your friends get them,” Weisman said on his Scamicide blog. But in the end, “coupons are useless and you get nothing but the opportunity to become a victim of identity theft.”

Weisman offers some tips on his blog on how to avoid these scams. If you don’t see an expiration date for a coupon that floats on social media or ends up in your inbox, it’s likely fake. And if you go to the seller’s website and do not see similar offers, most likely this is a fake.

If you spot a fraudulent coupon, you can report it to the FTC through the Complaints Portal. If you receive it by email, you can send it to the FTC .

As Costco fans noted in the comments on the company’s Facebook post, Costco is not giving away anything for free other than samples.
