Best and Worst Times to Travel This Thanksgiving, According to Google Maps

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and if travel is on your agenda, Google has some tips on how to make your trip more enjoyable. Like every year, the company released some analytics this week on what is likely the best and worst time to travel on vacation, based on data from Google Maps over the past year.

By and large, Google claims the worst time to hit the road is between 3pm and 4pm before Thanksgiving. If you wait to start this ride in the morning, the roads will clear up significantly around 6 a.m.

When it’s time to drive home, Google recommends leaving on a Friday or Saturday morning to avoid the hustle and bustle of the day.

In a less than shocking revelation, Google also recommends avoiding places like the grocery store, bakeries, and liquor stores the day before Thanksgiving.

To get an overview of Thanksgiving travel, Google created this chart showing when is better and worse to travel in a number of major cities.

It also has an interactive site this year where you can get more specific travel information in a number of major cities that is definitely worth looking out for when you are planning this family trip.
