Don’t Buy an Older IPhone Until September 10
Woe to you, your friends or loved ones who saved their pennies for the old big iPhone update and are eager to make this purchase in the next week and a half. Now that Apple has officially announced the next big launch date for its product – September 10 – it would be a very unwise decision to buy a new iPhone right now.
In fact, I’m surprised that this is generally a thing for people, but apparently there are still a number of impatient Apple fans out there who can’t wait to spend some money right now. As 9to5Mac describes :
“Every August, 9to5Mac is awash with people asking if they should buy the previous year’s iPhone model or wait to see what Apple has in store for September. Even if you don’t care about the new technology coming to the new iPhone this year, the answer is always clear: wait. “
The reason is simple. If you’ve ever followed Apple’s September announcements – and you might have forgotten about it, but that’s okay – the company invariably cuts the price of its older iPhones very marginally when it announces new iPhones. If you’re lucky, the device you’re eyeing might even get a storage upgrade and a lower price tag.
Back side? If you’re looking to buy a much older iPhone like the iPhone 7, there’s a good chance Apple will discontinue the lineup when it announces the iPhone 11 (or whatever). So, if you want to purchase a vintage device directly from Apple and not from a reseller, you should buy it before September 10th.
Since I doubt most people will find themselves in this scenario, you should wait for Apple to announce its new pricing and, if you’re still interested in a not-so-new iPhone, buy one. You can also do a decent deal on the reseller’s site , but know that anyone who currently owns a slightly older model will be looking to get some big bucks on their device (so they can reinvest in an iPhone 11 series. Phone).
For more savings, you can even wait until the next iPhone release date, or a few weeks later, for the price wars to subside a bit.
Plus, other retailers (such as Best Buy) may offer even better savings based on Apple’s price changes on older iPhones, especially as we get closer to the horrific Black Friday shopping experience. Keep these stores in mind, too , even if your first temptation is to go straight to apple.com and melt your credit card.
