Don’t Worry About Organizing Your Books

At Brooklyn’s Books Are Magic, like most bookstores, books are organized intelligently: fiction sorted by author name; popular science literature in various categories with an exhibition of books of local interest; children’s books by age groups and authors; new books face up on the front tables; a wall of cookbooks; thin shelf from the paperback series like 33 1/3 .

Meanwhile, the people who work at Book of Magic have their own schemes (or not) for organizing their books at home. (The word “landslide” pops up.)

We spoke with the Books Are Magic staff about how they get their books, where they store them, and how (and if) they dispose of them. Their answers can help you feel better about your chaotic collection, or be proud of your well-sorted collection.
