How to Get the Best Volume Control on Apple HomePod

The best feature of HomePod – this is the sound quality, but Apple also made its best when it came to managing your music volume. Sure, you can just tell Siri to “turn up the volume,” or press the buttons at the top of the speaker , but for best results, try adjusting the HomePod’s volume on a scale of 1 to 100.

Apple offers several different voice commands for this. Try saying, “Hey Siri, turn the volume up to 40,” “Hey Siri, turn up the volume to 65,” or “Hey Siri, turn up the volume up to 35 percent.” This gives you more granular control over volume than Amazon Echo speakers, which operate on a 1-10 scale. Google Home also offers a volume range of 1-100, but only when you use the word “percentage” in a voice command.

On Reddit , HomePod owners have also warned that you should avoid trying to set the volume on teens, as Siri may incorrectly hear 17 as 70 or 18 as 80 and turn the volume up to an uncomfortable level. The opposite can also happen, so numbers like 70 and 80 can be mistaken for smaller amounts.

Aside from the 1-100 scale, there are a few more volume-related HomePod tricks worth knowing. You can say “Hey Siri, zoom in / out” to change the setting by 10%, or “Hey Siri, zoom in / out hard” for 20%. You can also ask Siri to set the HomePod to “maximum volume,” which will cause a warning to appear before activating the speaker to the maximum level.

Finally, if you want to control the volume of Siri’s voice (as opposed to music), just say “Hey Siri, set the volume to 50%” or any other number. This can come in handy if you want to listen to loud music but don’t want the HomePod to yell at you when you ask about the weather.
