Leave Your Favorite Toiletries at Your Parent’s Home so They Can Be There Next Time You Visit

Six years ago, I moved from North Carolina to San Francisco. Most of my good friends still live in North Carolina, which means that I visit several times a year for at least a week and sometimes longer. The first few of those long trips led to a dilemma: What should I do with things like shampoo and toothpaste?

Since I am allergic to the pets of my parents / furry friends they replaced me, I always stay with the same friend. Yes, she has things like soap and whatnot that I can use and I used them on the first few trips, but then I figured out the best option: I bought full-size toiletries and left them in the back of the closet in her guest bathroom to use next time i come.

It’s perfectly wise to come over for a few days and use someone else’s stuff. If you visit a place for a long period of time (this time I’m here for a week) and do it several times a year, then you are seriously hitting someone’s shampoo supply.

Yes, I could bring this from home, but then I have to hand over my bag. And my friend doesn’t use the same things I do, which is fine for a day or two, but when you talk about a week, I start to miss the smell of my favorite shower gel and the ability of the conditioner to do my hair. doesn’t feel like a complete train wreck. You use certain things because they work great for you, and your friend or family members probably don’t use them on a regular basis.

I took a trip to Walgreens a few years ago and just bought everything I regularly use at home. It was a $ 25 investment and included toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo and conditioner, a razor, and a bonus toothbrush.

I talked to my friend before I did this (don’t leave the random soap at a friend’s house without explaining why), used it for a week when I was away, and then stuck it under the sink when I left. The next time I came, I didn’t even have to take my toothbrush with me, I knew that all this was waiting for me.

I think we’re probably three years in this arrangement, and it’s always good to know that I have my stuff here. I don’t have to go to the pharmacy at the last minute because I forgot something and she doesn’t think she needs to collect something for me, when I get here I covered it up.

I’m not sure if I ever thought about doing this before, but since I did, the journey home just got a lot easier. If you’re spending a long weekend with your family this weekend, deliberately leave your toiletries behind. When it’s time for another trip in a few months, you’ll be happy you did.
