How to Add a Last Name on Holiday Cards
It’s almost Halloween, which means you’re already late for your holiday cards. If you will be writing a year-end letter on behalf of yourself, your partner, and possibly your children, consider your return address.
Are you Smith? Joneseseses? Gonzalezz? No. Check out a simple Slate chart (via Reddit ) to learn how to spell the plural form of your last name correctly.
Of course, if you want to go crazy, of course, be Joneseseses. What are your friends going to do, send the postcard back?
If your family has different surnames, things are much more complicated . You can use the phrase “Nguyen and Le’s family,” make a fake hyphen, or simply fill in the full name of each as if you were entering the credits of a TV show.
Or you can turn your names into a purse of celebrities like Rodrigautistas or Smicksons. My wife Rachel Ferschlazer and I call ourselves Duglazers. Most of the results sound pharmaceutical-like, but people find it cute.
But please don’t put an apostrophe here, or you will make many pedants flinch.
