What Is the Most Inconvenient Call or SMS You Have Received?
Even with smartphones and caller ID, there are calls and text messages with the wrong number all the time. What’s the strangest one you’ve ever received? How did you deal with it?
For example, one day I got a call from an elderly man who was looking for someone named William. He called several times a week, and I never answered because I don’t take unknown numbers, so he left very short voice messages asking William to call him back. I assumed that he would eventually take the hint and realize that I was not the one he was trying to contact, so I never answered. Finally, he left an emotional voicemail that clarified the situation. It turns out that William was his estranged son, and he got the impression that William ignored his attempts to lend a helping hand. After hearing that voicemail, I finally called the number back and explained that I was not William and that he probably wasn’t ignoring him.
So what are the weirdest and most embarrassing calls or messages on the wrong number that you have received? Was it obscene sex for prying eyes? Was this a call about something you didn’t know about?
