Highest-Paying US Cities for STEM Jobs

Where you decide to live will inevitably depend on your job, while the cost of living in different cities also depends on what salary you can receive. The growing and diverse STEM job space is no exception when it comes to different regions offering different rates. Here are the highest paying STEM jobs.

SmartAsset analyzed data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which included 30,000 STEM workers, and compared it to 53 metropolitan areas in the United States. The data is for 2015, but they also factor in average wage increases in their rankings to highlight areas that have a rise in jobs and incomes (even if they aren’t literally the highest earning places). Unsurprisingly, Silicon Valley ranks among the top urban areas:

  1. San Jose Sunnyvale Santa Clara, California , with an average wage of $ 105,920 and an average increase of 3.5%
  2. Cleveland Elria Mentor, Ohio , with an average wage of $ 69,693 and an average increase of 6.4%.
  3. San Francisco-San Mateo Redwood City, California, with an average wage of $ 101,083 and an average increase of 3.4%.
  4. Nassau-Suffolk, NY, with an average wage of $ 74,597 and an average increase of 4.7%.

Of course, STEM is a vast field that can include jobs in a variety of fields, from programming to aerospace and biology, which also affects the salary range you might be in. Read the SmartAsset breakdown for a closer look at the data and view all the top 25 metro districts.
