Use Warm, Soapy Water to Press a Stable Bicycle Tire Against the Rim

If you’ve ever owned a bicycle tire that couldn’t be put on a rim, you probably knew the awful pain of blistering palms. On the Global Cycling Network, they show some tips on how to press a stable tire against the rim without hurting your hands.

The first tip they show is to make sure the bead is in the center of the rim. It helps because the center is below the edges. They then also offer to warm up the tire or push the section last through the valve. For those really stubborn, ugly tires that make you yell at your wheelset, they suggest lubricating the bead of the tire with a little soap and water. Just take some soapy water, rub it on the stable part of the bead, and it will almost always slide over it.
