Take Canned Tomato Soup to the Next Level With Roasted Nuts

Tomato soup itself is not the most interesting thing, but tomato soup in a tin can? Double yawn. It can be boring, but convenient. And it’s easy to upgrade. A handful of toasted nuts are great.

Epicurious recommends Dukka , a Middle Eastern nut and seed blend that includes hazelnuts, sesame seeds, coriander and cumin. Chances are, if you’re making canned tomato soup, you don’t want to turn it into a whole production. Keep it simple and use one nut or seed:

Use whatever you have on hand – almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds – and add a couple of spices (like pepper or cumin) for even more flavor. Make a double serving so you have a little on hand the next time you cook your soup, then spoon over the bowl for a nice side dish and a nice crunchy texture.

You can cook them in a skillet, but you can also use the microwave . For more options, check out the full Epicurious post.
