Nine DIY Photography Tricks Anyone Can Do

If you’re tired of the usual selfies and sloppy sunset shots, here are some fun tricks that can spice up your photos with common household items.

Thisdensely packed on COOPH shows a lot of quick experiments with their own hands, which you can try. You can, for example, make a rudimentary macro lens by simply flipping the normal lens over (and using a roll of toilet paper, setting it at the desired distance so that your image is in focus). Or you can use a shower curtain to get the perfect diffused light. And then there’s the classic makeshift camera obscura that can be done with a spare lens cap in just a few minutes.

While most of these tricks are geared towards DSLR cameras, some of them will work with smartphones as well (in fact, forced perspective might work better on a phone as they lack shallow depth of field). However, I don’t think I will have the courage to try this underwater trick.
