Four Tips for Making the Perfect Grilled Vegetable Burgers
You can make veggie burgers anywhere, but grilling will give you the best flavor and texture. These expert grilling tips will help you get your veggie burgers just the way you want them to be.
In the process of testing 17 widely available vegetarian hamburger patties, Consumer Reports went to the trouble of grilling. And while they were grilling, they learned a thing or two about how to get the best out of a vegetable pie. Here’s what they learned:
- Do not defrost frozen veggie burgers – they can be turned into a clean grill immediately from the freezer.
- Set the grill to medium heat and do not oil the grates. Preheat the grill for 10 minutes.
- If there are grilling instructions on the veggie burger package, follow them. If there are no instructions, cook the burgers for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Gently turn the burgers only once in the middle of cooking so they don’t fall apart.
Grilling is especially helpful if you want your veggie burgers to have a more meaty texture. Plus, grilling is more fun, especially when it’s nice outside.
