Clean up the Clutter of Your Home by Pretending It’s a Store

Getting rid of clutter is getting rid of things that you no longer need or that you no longer need. If you are having trouble with the process, this mental trick will help you narrow down quickly.

When you go shopping, you demonstrate your desire for things by spending your hard-earned money buying them. Apartment Therapy’s Tarrin Williford invites you to go through a similar process at home. Imagine that you are in a store and the item in your hand has just been removed from the shelf. Now, imagine that you don’t have the item and ask yourself if you would buy it right now (let’s say it is new and is priced accordingly). If so, it’s worth leaving. If not, it’s time to say goodbye, or at least reconsider your value to you. At the end of the cleaning process, you should only have the items you really need and need.
