Look More Attractive in Online Dating Photos Using Open Body Language

Choosing the right photo to represent your dating profile can be a daunting task. Do you want to look active? Adventurous? Or maybe talented? Regardless of which one you choose, recent research suggests that you should use open, expansive body language.

A study by Tanya Vacharkulksemsuk and Dana Carney of the University of California, Berkeley and published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that people using wide body language poses in their photographs were selected more often than when they used compression poses. For example, raising your arms in a “v” shape or trying to grab something will look more attractive than crossing your arms, bending your shoulders, or curling up into a ball. The results show that using open body language is especially effective for men who want to look more attractive but still beneficial for women. Researchers believe that being open to certain postures also implies a certain level of dominance, assuming at some level that you have something to share and that you are willing to share it. So, use your hands, get into an open position, and don’t cover yourself up in your dating profile pictures.
