These Five Questions Will Help You Beat Procrastination.

Procrastination is an unpleasant habit, but we don’t procrastinate because of our laziness. We are putting things off until later for a variety of reasons, and these questions will help you figure it out and win.

On productivity blog iDoneThis, writer Blake Thorne suggests that procrastination can teach us a lot about how we work and how we should change our workflow. Asking yourself the following questions will help you understand why you are procrastinating:

1. What are the long-term benefits of the task I am postponing?

2. Can I do without these benefits?

3. Can I achieve the same results with a different task?

4. Can I replace these benefits with equivalent benefits that can be obtained in another way?

5. Can I delegate or outsource this activity and get the same benefits?

If you answered yes to any of the 2–5 questions, consider removing the task from your life and reaping benefits in another way. Otherwise, this exercise can give you the momentum you need to relax and return to the task at hand.

Of course, sometimes you just need to stop distractions and get busy with work. But if you can find the source of your procrastination and defeat it once and for all, a few simple questions are worth asking. Check out Thorne’s full post for more information.
