Ask: “What Am I Studying?” Decide When to Change Jobs

It’s hard to decide when to quit your job. If you are thinking about quitting or are just trying to get more out of your job, ask yourself, “What am I learning?” If you don’t have a good answer, it might be time for a change.

As one of the Forbes contributors explains, if you’re not learning from your current job, you might be missing out on an opportunity elsewhere. Learning on the job is how you acquire skills that make you more valuable over time. So ask yourself at the end of each day, “What have I learned today?”

No matter how simple or challenging your day was, you’ve probably learned a thing or two. Have you learned a new skill or learned a new process? Have you learned something about your organization that will help you better understand your position in it? Have you had any experience that will help you in similar situations in the future? Find at least one thing you learned the previous day and think about it.

It can help you decide whether to quit your job, but it can also help you improve your current job. Adopting an active learning attitude can help you approach work with a sense of curiosity and self-improvement. Instead of trying to get your job done just for the time being, observe your surroundings and use your surroundings to find out more. At the very least, it will make you more valuable when you decide to move on.
