Repair Damaged Faceplates for an Instant Home Facelift
Fascia planks are susceptible to water damage, which causes wood planks to rot, which can loosen and become unsightly. Renovate your cladding panels to make your home unique.
Fascia panels run horizontally under the edge of the roof and can be made of wood or sheet metal. These boards are installed in segments, while the seams must be aligned with the rafters, which protects their ends from water damage.
If paint is peeling off the cladding (pictured above) but the wood is in good condition, sand and repaint the boards. If you notice signs of decay, you will need to cut and replace these areas from the rafters. Watch the video above to learn how to trim cladding boards to accommodate corners.
Avoid regular 16p nails, which can crack and split the bezel. Use 8p or 10p galvanized nails to install new cladding boards. Use wood putty to fill cracks in seams and corners, then sand.
