You Can Deduct Volunteer Travel Expenses From Your Taxes

Donating your time to organizations is a great way to get it back. However, unlike other charitable donations, you cannot qualify for volunteer work as a tax deduction. But Bankrate points out that you can deduct your travel expenses as a volunteer.

In their article on Unusual Tax Credits, they explain that your travel expenses to and from volunteering are not taxable. If you are using a car as a volunteer, you can also deduct travel expenses to your place of work.

The standard deduction is 14 cents per mile, and you can deduct parking or toll fees as well. Read more about the little-known tax breaks in the article.
