How to Clean a Dishwasher Correctly

There have been a lot of dirty dishes lately, and with every wash cycle, your dishwasher gets a little dirtier. If your plates and silverware don’t come out clean, your glass is fogging up, or you smell a foul smell in the dishwasher, it’s time for a deep clean.

You can buy an industrial dishwasher cleaner, but you probably already have all the ingredients for a clean machine in your home. Start by placing a cup of white distilled vinegar upright on the top shelf. Start a hot water cycle leaving the rest of the dishwasher empty.

Then sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and run an empty cycle hot again. You can also sprinkle Kool-Aid lemon powder into a soap dish. This Kool-aid flavor is made up almost entirely of citric acid, so it will leave a fresh scent in your dishwasher. (Just be sure not to use any other flavoring that will leave a sugar residue.)

If your dishwasher has a filter, periodically remove it and clean it with a brush. Small pieces of food can get stuck there and interfere with normal blood circulation.
