Child Culture Guide for Adults: Choice Times

We, Olds, are not the only ones obsessed with the upcoming elections. Children are interested too, even those who are too young to vote, but they are much less likely to get information from Fox News or CNN, so this week I watch how young people see our upcoming election / national nightmare.

TikTok to polls

While the drama of the day for many TikTok users is no more significant than a woman charging too much money to place balloons , a significant portion of the video sharing service’s users are political. Hashtags and massive voting attempts like Tok The Vote include tons of politically charged videos that have been viewed over 21 million times. (Don’t look if you’re bleeding; kids want Biden with an almost ludicrous difference.) TikTok itself has set up many resources in the app to help its users sign up and vote.

While serious online activism and voter guides for congressional candidates are great, political TikTok really shines when it pokes fun at how embarrassing seniors are. Have a look at #TrumpDance to see what I mean.

This Week In Video Games: AOC and Among Us Take Over Twitch

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently visited the game streaming site Twitch to play a few random rounds among us and quickly garnered over 400,000 views on her live stream and over five million views (and still growing). AOC and her congressional buddy Ilhan Omar weren’t just killing time; they were on a mission to get the children to vote. By all accounts, AOC played well, didn’t make it weird, and had a fun broadcast.

I have two conclusions from the experiment. First, if AOC convinces enough previously disinterested young people to vote, Among Us and Twitch could influence the election. Second, ” Among Us” is probably over: when congressmen (even young, hipster ones) use your game for political purposes, most likely the tough guys have already found something important.

Viral Video of the Week: Borat Meets David Dobrik

This week’sviral video showsBorat , but this is not a nightmarish scene from his new film, where Rudy Giliani “tucks his shirt” in front of Borat’s daughter. Instead, the kids are posting a video on YouTube in which the wildly popular online star David Dobrik introduces Borat to his pals. The video, in which Borat destroys Dobrik’s Tesla and an expensive chewing gum machine, is a look at how children’s films are being promoted these days. More than four million people have watched the clip since it was posted on Oct.21, far surpassing any late-night talk show appearances.

This Week In The Movies: Witches

Witches are the perfect means to purify the sky for children and adults burned in the current political bowl of blood. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on the story of the great Roald Dahl, The Witch, starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci. As in Dahl’s best stories, The Witches do not ease the horror and pain of life in order to “protect” the children who watch – the witches are really scary, and the danger and pain seem real and intuitive. It’s a must watch and you can now watch it on HBO Max.
