Identify Any Song With Spotify’s New Song Search Feature
Spotify quietly rolled out a new “lyrics search” feature across all of its apps, so sorry if you didn’t even know it existed. (Who among us wastes time typing, I would suffocate, but without it, I would be left blank in the search fields of our favorite music apps?)
But now, if you do this in the Spotify apps for iOS, Android or desktop, the search results will show exactly the song from which these lyrics were taken. (In this case, it’s Eve 6’s 90s jam, “Inside Out.”) In your mobile apps, Spotify will even tell you that it has performed a text search listing the matches it finds:
Spotify’s search feature is good, but not flawless. Much like throwing your name in your hat at a karaoke bar after drinking a few times, you can mess up your lyrics a little and you should be fine. For example, if you thought Eve 6 was talking about choking ” in the rhine ” – a drainage ditch – Spotify can still figure out what you mean “Inside Out”. However, mess up a seemingly less critical word in the middle of a phrase, and Spotify may not understand what you are trying to quietly sing to yourself:
Google, it is not. And if you find yourself having trouble getting Spotify to identify songs from the lyrics you enter, your space may be too deep for even the extensive music streaming service to recognize. It is also possible that you misunderstood the words all this time.
If so, then it might be better to turn to your favorite search engine again for help – or turn to another application or operating system trick – by naming that tune. Nothing wrong. I still don’t know what NSync sings in the chorus of “Bye Bye Bye”.
