How to Take Better Photos on IPhone
Apple loves their Snapshot on iPhone ad campaign, which makes great billboards from photos that appear to have been captured on one of their regular phones. So why don’t any of your photos look like this?
Well, you don’t have to go to the desert or to the bottom of the ocean to get the most beautiful iPhone photos, you just need to know when and how to use the correct modes and settings.
The first (and most obvious) parameter to check is your flash. Too often, the flash won’t turn on when you’re not shooting in a dark room, or off when you’re too close to the subject, resulting in a white blur instead of a photo. By clicking on the lightning bolt icon in the upper left corner, you can turn the flash on, off or set to automatic, letting the phone decide if it needs a flash or not. In most cases, if you have decent lighting, you will need to turn off your flash.
Clicking on the small up arrow in the top center of the screen will open up other settings that you can change, such as aspect ratio (which represents the shape of your photo: square or rectangle) or exposure (or brightness). You can also turn on low light mode or timer. If you have a portrait mode model, turn it on for the most beautiful images, especially people; In portrait mode, the background is blurred and the main subject remains in focus. Make sure you’re about eight feet from your main subject and scroll through the lighting options in portrait mode to see what works best.
