How to Try Out IPhone 12 Accessories
Buying a new phone is usually a hands-on task, but you probably won’t be visiting your nearest Apple store to see the new iPhone 12 lineup in person anytime soon (for obvious reasons). To address this issue, Apple recently released iPhone 12 Studio, a mobile web-based version that allows you to virtually explore all four iPhone 12 models and see how they look with third-party cases and accessories.
The iPhone 12 Studio works with any smartphone or tablet, including Android devices. Doesn’t work on desktop. Since I don’t have an iPhone, I tried it on my iPad Pro and Pixel 3a XL and the experience was the same on both.
Here’s how it works: open Experience.apple/iphone on your smartphone or tablet, click Get Started and wait for everything to load.
Then you choose which iPhone 12 model you want to explore. Each phone can be rotated to reveal its design and you can use different colors or attach MagSafe cases and wallets.
Each accessory you choose is loaded with a short animation – for example, suitcases “slide” on and off the phone. It’s almost like dressing up a video game character with items and skins, except instead of loading it into the game world, it ends up asking the website if you would like to purchase your personalized iPhone 12.
The iPhone 12 Studio is well-made and offers a nifty way of looking at every possible iPhone 12 variation, but it’s not a substitute for personal shopping.
Obviously, the process will not give you any tactile experience, which is very important when you are buying an expensive item such as a phone and various accessories to it. How hard is it? Do the materials seem durable? Will it be comfortable in the hand and in the pockets ? How much can you really fit in that sleeve of a wallet?
You won’t feel any of this with the iPhone 12 Studio tool, but it does at least give you an idea of what the iPhone 12 line and its cases look like.
