If IPhone Error 12 Disrupted Wireless Charging, Try This

It’s unclear how many new iPhone 12 owners have been affected, but it looks like there is at least some issue preventing new iPhones from continuously charging from a wireless charger.

The problem appears to mainly affect those using Qi-based chargers rather than Apple MagSafe chargers , but I haven’t seen enough evidence yet to rule out the latter. The problem is simple: when you insert the iPhone 12 into the Qi charger, nothing happens. No charging takes place and no amount of issues with placing your iPhone on the specified charger will make it work.

According to 9to5Mac , Apple is aware of this issue and is allegedly working on a fix. That’s good to hear because it doesn’t look like there is a hardware issue that you might have to fix by shipping your iPhone 12 to Apple (or taking it to a retail store). The bad news is that you will have to be patient because it is unknown when this official fix may appear. In the meantime, there are a few steps you can take to fix this problem yourself.

First, and most importantly, take it easy. I wouldn’t contact Apple to replace my iPhone, requiring you to re-configure everything from scratch (or create a backup). I would also not reset my iPhone (via Settings> General> Reset> Erase All Content and Settings ) in the hopes that this will fix the problem, as this is some kind of thermonuclear approach to the problem that does not guarantee it solutions.

Make sure you are using iOS 14.2 as it specifically addresses some issues that previously prevented wireless charging. If that doesn’t help, I’ve seen reports that people are able to get their 12s pictures again charging by performing Restart Force when they encounter wireless charging errors: Press the Volume Up button , then press the Volume Down button, then hold the side button (that which you use to turn the iPhone screen on and off 12). Once you see the Apple logo, release the side button and wait for the iPhone to restart.

You can also temporarily switch to a wired charger if you’re tired of your iPhone having less battery power when you wake up than when you went to bed. This is complicated a little by the fact that the iPhone 12s didn’t have a power adapter – just a cable. Hope you have some kind of USB-C adapter (or computer). If not, it’s time to get your Apple-loving friend to let you borrow one of 8 different power adapters that are likely in one of their desk drawers.
