Stir Cocktails to the Ideal Temperature With a Digital Thermometer

Making cocktails does not require advanced scientific knowledge, but it can help you make better cocktails. Bringing drinks to the ideal temperature and diluting them will bring them up, and this can be done much easier with a gadget that you usually find elsewhere in the kitchen.

In the video above, Wired YouTube’s Adam Rogers talks to Jennifer Colliau about the role of ice in mixology. Unsurprisingly, cocktails are better when they are cold, and they can be even colder than frozen ones due to their alcohol content. To reach this ideal temperature, ice must dilute and cool the drink ( as we discussed earlier ). However, it is also important not to dilute the drink too much. That’s why Colliau suggests using a digital thermometer to stir your drink and see exactly when you reach your ideal temperature. Of course, the ideal temperature will vary from drink to drink (typically 28 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and this may require some experimentation, but using a thermometer is a smart way to achieve this.
