Get a Boost in Creativity by Doing Something Mindless Like Cleaning

It is necessary to overcome the creative barrier or call a new “eureka”! moments? Try to step back and do something as pointless as cleaning.

Citing the work of researchers at the University of California , Davis , Brit + Co explains that doing things you don’t have to think about gives your brain the freedom to think creatively:

It all comes down to the structure of the brain and the myriad of neurological processes. Basically, when you vacuum or wipe the meters, the muscle memory part of your brain ignores the creative thinking part of your brain, allowing it to do its own thing (like pondering the next big creative breakthrough!). When our hands distract our brains, this “autopilot” function actually increases the level of thinking and creative thinking. But don’t worry – you don’t need to shower or mop the floor all day. Minor tasks such as walking the dog, painting, or watering the garden allow your brain to focus on other activities while you enjoy “mindless” physical tasks.

However, cleaning is also a great way to procrastinate, so be careful not to go too far.
