Calling Yourself “lazy” Is Not a Reason for Performance Issues
You know your to-do list, but you haven’t gotten to it yet. You sit on the couch wanting to be more productive, but instead agree to say, “I’m so lazy.” If you find yourself in this situation, the problem is not laziness.
As productivity site Goals Infinite explains, laziness is a symptom, not a disease. Even those who would call themselves lazy have at least some desire to do something. The site sums it up like this: “I want to do everything, but I end up doing nothing.” If you start your cycle with a desire to achieve something, then at least you don’t want to be lazy. So what’s the problem?
The site offers several possible explanations:
- For the next step, you need to step outside your comfort zone .
- You lack commitment or motivation .
- You need a plan to move on.
- You think too much about it .
Each of these scenarios can lead to inaction if you don’t know how to deal with them. Coincidentally, they have other solutions besides “Don’t be lazy.” If you don’t have a plan, you need to come up with one. If you’re afraid to take the first step outside your comfort zone, try to step out of it in less ways. Your laziness only indicates that you are having trouble getting started.
