Before Going on Vacation, Make a List of Souvenirs so You Don’t Overspend
The budget is the last thing you want to think about while on vacation, which is why it is so easy to miss out on it. To avoid a hangover when you return, make a list of the things you want to buy before you leave.
Apartment Therapy makes it clear that when we travel, we tend to think of shopping as an activity, which can get us into trouble. Most of us are already more inclined to spend money on vacation. Add to that the activity of shopping, and “this is the worst thing you can do if you are trying to save money while traveling,” says writer Taryn Williford.
The idea is not to skip shopping entirely while on vacation. If you would like to shop for souvenirs or certain items, make a list of what you want before leaving. Maybe it’s a gift to a friend or just something from the same region. Either way, the list helps to ensure that your purchases are a means to an end, not an action. If you’re on a tight budget, this comes in handy. For more tips, see Willford’s full article.
