Rest of the Day: Facebook Launches Separate Event App
Facebook tends to incorporate popular features into their own apps, and today they are trying this strategy with Events. Their new Events app offers a more feature-rich calendar than its web counterpart, as well as new ways to view and detect events. About this and much more in today’s news.

- In other news, Google Duo is replacing Hangouts as the default messaging app on Android. Hangouts doesn’t disappear in any way; rather, Google will not require Android phone vendors to preload Hangouts. However, they will require Duo to be downloaded on all Android phones. This is sort of a demotion for Hangouts that is now optional. [Android Police]
- Microsoft’s hardware, unveiled later this month, is rumored to be finally confirmed on October 26th. This is unlikely to be terrific, but they are expected to showcase a new all-in-one desktop PC and possibly provide some details on the next Windows 10 update. [The Verge]
- Google is opening a regular “Made by Google” pop-up store in Manhattan to showcase its new devices. The store will open on October 20 at 96 Spring Street in Soho. [via The Next Web ]
