4 Things You Can Do With Guinness Besides Drinking It
Beer is meant to be drunk and I would never advise you not to drink beer, but there is no reason you can’t have Guiness and cook with it too. Below you will find some delicious dishes designed to fill your stomach with the iconic stout, all of which should be prepared with a cold drink in hand.
- Bake With It: The dark and rich character of the strong goes especially well with chocolate desserts like this cake from The Kitchn , these cupcakes from Dave Lieberman and this sweet and savory chocolate marshmallow meringue cake . If you’re short on time, you can make a super quick cake with a box of devil food cake mix, a cup of Guinness, and a couple of eggs. Whisk everything together, pour into a prepared baking dish and bake according to the directions on the box.
- Stew with this: why cook with water when you have beer? Short ribs , shank of lamb and classic Irish corned beef and cabbage all benefit from a dark beer bath. It is also a great frosting remover and can be used to whip up a medium sauce for almost any filling meats .
- Do it boldly: the beer mustard sausage is an absolute beauty, and you can make a flavorful seasoning by mixing a couple tablespoons of a strong mustard with a half cup of your favorite coarse mustard. If you want to really dress up, you can take a replica from Epicurious and add some dijon, shallots and brown sugar. (It also makes a great barbecue sauce for drawing on a wire rack with ribs.)
- Stew in it: Guinness can sometimes get lost in a hearty meat stew, but this recipe from Serious Eats enhances the flavor of the beer by adding dark and roasted coffee. The recipe calls for beef, but I personally wouldn’t be mad at you if you wanted to try it with lamb.
If you’re just looking for ways to drink Guinness more creatively, we’ve got you covered. A bottle of Guiness, made with a healthy amount of vanilla ice cream per pint, is always delicious, but you can also mix it with a milkshake or add bubbles to it for an amazingly creamy shake .
