An Easy Way to Visualize How Much Sugar Is Actually in the Foods You Eat

Sugar is not inherently bad for you, but manufacturers add so much of it to their food and drinks that it’s far from overkill . The problem is that a number like “20 g of sugar” on a label is not easy to understand. This trick will help.

In the above video from the Business Insider YouTube channel, Registered Nutritionist Andy Bellatti explains an easy way to mentally visualize how much sugar is in your favorite snacks and drinks. Take the listed grams of sugar and divide by four. Here are how many teaspoons or small spoons of sugar there are. If, for example, your soda has 20 grams of sugar, that means there are five teaspoons of sugar in it. If you measured them out and dumped them into a bowl, it wouldn’t be so delicious. Ideally, you should keep your added sugar intake at less than 40 grams per day, so keep this in mind when shopping.
