What TV Show Foods Are You Obsessed With?
Happy Monday, and welcome toWhat is Cooking? , a weekly open thread where you can share all your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on anything edible. This week, I want to talk about the fictional foods you would like to bring to life, especially the iconic foods from your favorite TV shows.
As most of you probably know, the new season of Twin Peaks premiered last night (it’s strange to call it “season”, as if there wasn’t a quarter century gap between the second season and these new episodes; that seems like more than that) … While I’m cautiously excited about what they’re doing on the show, I was a little disappointed with the lack of donuts, cherry pie, and damn good coffee. However, I was overjoyed to see Uncle Jerry become addicted to food.
In Twin Peaks, cake and coffee are practically their own characters, and their absence is a little confusing. Hopefully we get to the diner soon and hopefully Norma is still making the cherry pie. (However, it would be fun if she really got carried away with the puppet or some bullshit. Can you imagine this outrage?)
So, I want to hear from you what TV foods you’ve always craved for, have you ever made them or not, and if you have a cherry pie recipe worthy of a Double R Diner. Some topics of conversation:
- Which non-food TV show has the best food? I would say 30 Rock. Sandwiches fromSandwich Day , Lover’s Delight at Plunder andCheesy Blasters would be welcome on my table and in my stomach. However, Master of None also has its own moments.
- Have you ever tried recreating a dish from a show? I really did Cheesy Blasters. They were good.
- Have you ever gone to a restaurant that was featured on your favorite TV series? I am currently planning a small Twin Peaks themed day trip with a stop at Double R.
- I suppose this is technically from the movie, but has anyone else really got a distorted idea of how delicious Turkish delight would be thanks to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe? I mean, it’s good, but it’s not like “sell your family to a witch” good.
- Have you tried making Twin Peaks Pie? Want to share your methods?
- Which series contains your favorite drinks? Aside from the damn good coffee, I’ve always liked Star Trek drinks, especiallythese greens .
Okay, it’s your turn! Also, if you’re not watching TV, feel free to take inspiration from movies and books. In fact, any fictional food will do.
