How to Measure Pinch, Snatch and Smidgeon
All measurements are related to precision, but the terms dash, pinch, and a little bit have always been a little vague. However, they do have a few precise definitions that can be helpful if you are zooming in on a recipe.

Traditionally, “pinching” simply meant that the amount you can literally pinch between your index finger and thumb is usually 1/16 to 1/8 teaspoon. Smidgen is half a pinch (1/32 teaspoon) and the dash is the unit of measure for liquid that equals 1/8 teaspoon. These are good terms to know, but don’t worry if you have tiny measuring spoons; these units are most commonly used for seasoning, so it is unlikely that you will spoil anything by playing with that amount a little quickly and loosely.
