Put Your Emergency Information on the Child Car Seat
We hope you have never had a serious car accident with your children. But being prepared is good, and this advice from parents can help rescuers during rescue operations.
If you and other adults in the car are injured and unable to communicate, it will be difficult for respondents to identify young children in the car. So, as a mother named Alexis Kopas tweeted, it would make sense to pin their names and emergency information on their car seats.
Make an emergency map first. Information to include:
- Child’s name
- Child’s date of birth
- Names, dates of birth and phone numbers of parents.
- The telephone number of at least one external emergency contact.
- Any important medical information (such as medications or allergies).
- Pediatric doctor’s name and number
- Any other important information
(There are also some free downloadable car seat stickers on the Internet, like this one .)
Then attach the information to a place in the car seat that is not very visible through the window. Better yet, hide the information under a paper flap that says “ICE” (in case of an emergency) on the outside. Here’s a tutorial from Baby Gizmo. Be sure to update the map and put it on every car seat your child uses.
This is not an ideal solution – emergency responders may not always be able to look at the car seat for information, and children may not always sit in the same car seat every time. But this is a simple thing you can do to take care of your child.
